What’s In A Story?

[bdp_post]

We all have a story. Whether it’s the story of an adventure, of our history, our family, or our business… We all have a story.

The difference between a good story – entertaining, engaging, interesting, and fun – and a not so good story, has little to do with the content and everything to do with the telling.

How do you tell your story?

What makes it interesting to others? More importantly, what is it about your story that draws people in, that causes them to identify with it, that makes them lean forward in their seats and want to hear more?

That’s the heart of what it means to communicate, and whether you’re a novelist, a film maker, an actor, or a business owner the first question you need to ask is what is the story I’m seeking to tell? The second question is why should anybody care?

That’s some of what we’re going to be considereing in this blog. What are the elements that make up a compelling story, why, and how do you build them into the story that you want to tell?

What do you think?
